Assemblyman Steven Choi’s Bipartisan AB 1002 Supporting Veterans’ Higher Education Pursuits Passes out of Senate Military And Veterans Affairs Committee

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 30, 2021 – Today, Members of the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee voted in support of AB 1002, authored by Assemblyman Steven Choi, Ph.D. (R-Irvine), which requests the UC and directs the CSU to formulate a consistent policy to recognize a military service member’s Joint Service Transcript and award appropriate course credit for their prior courses and/or training.

“California is home to roughly 1.8 million veterans and over 200,000 active and reserve members of the Armed Forces, many of whom have earned high education course credit during their service and potential wish to continue their educational pursuits at one of California’s world-class universities. AB 1002 will provide great support to our deserving service members seeking to further their educational pursuits in California,” commented Assemblymember Steven Choi.

AB 1002 now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for a vote.

Assemblyman Steven Choi serves the 68th District in the California Legislature, which includes Lake Forest, Irvine, Orange, North Tustin, Tustin, and Villa Park.
