SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 15, 2021 – This week, The Civil Justice Association of California (CJAC) announced that Assemblymember Steven Choi (R-68) was selected to receive the 2021 Civil Justice Gavel award.
Each year, CJAC presents the Civil Justice Gavel to one Democrat and one Republican legislator who display extraordinary leadership in promoting a fair, balanced civil justice system in California.
“We’re delighted to recognize the standout, bipartisan efforts of Assemblymembers Rubio and Choi toward improving California’s legal climate,” said Kyla Christoffersen Powell, President and CEO of CJAC. “Through their policy leadership this past year, they have helped minimize frivolous lawsuits against businesses in their districts and throughout the state.”
When considering award recipients, CJAC evaluates legislators’ votes on bills that impact California’s legal climate and other efforts to promote a balanced civil justice system in California communities. Assemblymember Choi received a 100% legislative voting record on CJAC’s 2020 Balance Scorecard.
“It’s a privilege to receive the Civil Justice Gavel from CJAC for my work,” said Assemblymember Choi. “If we want to keep a thriving state economy, a fair legal climate for businesses is a critical component, and I’ll continue to advocate for a balanced civil justice system.”
Assemblyman Steven Choi serves the 68th District in the California Legislature, which includes Lake Forest, Irvine, Orange, North Tustin, Tustin, and Villa Park.
The Civil Justice Association of California (CJAC) has been a trusted source of expertise on legal reform for almost half a century. CJAC confronts legislation, laws and regulations that create unfair litigation burdens on California businesses, employees and communities.
